Whether we’re Black or white, Latino or Asian, Indigenous or newcomer, we want our families to be healthy and whole. All of us value the opportunity to live in safe neighborhoods, where kids and young people enjoy the freedom to grow in peace and pursue their goals. We know what keeps us safe: living in communities where people of every color and background have fair wages, great schools, and affordable healthcare, where we address problems with research-proven solutions like supporting our community instead of funding ever more militarized police.
Empowered by extremist lobbyists, bad actors in local politics and local law enforcement break the rules, ignore their training, and face no consequences for actions that make our families less safe or harm those in their care. Instead of taking responsibility for their failures, certain politicians want to divide and distract us by pointing the finger at the people and communities harmed by police brutality. They hope that by spreading lies about our collective demands for accountability, we will turn against our neighbors and reject efforts that ensure a better future for us all.
No matter where we come from, how much money we have in our pockets, or what we look like, we all want safe neighborhoods where our children are free to grow and dream.
Together, we can reshape bad policies and practices in a way that empowers all of us to create safety and peace in our lives, families, and communities. We know a better future is possible, and by walking together, we can demand that our elected leaders make this a place where all of our rights and our lives are respected.
Time is a factor in all our stories, and the time is NOW to end police brutality.
Walk with us Sunday, October 22nd at the Ohio Statehouse as we demand accountability.
